Why joining our Debt Capital Markets Team?
Within SMBC’s Capital Markets Department, the DCM team focuses on supporting debt issuance for European clients by offering value-added solutions and widespread distribution capabilities to meet the needs of its customers.
The department operates from several cities around the world including Paris, London, Frankfurt, New York, and Tokyo.
The Paris office is part of a global DCM operation and accordingly works closely with other teams, leveraging off each other.
The DCM FIG team covering European Financial Institutions is spread out between London and Paris.
Joining the DCM team in Paris will be an opportunity for you to work with other capital market teams and get insights in other perks of investment banking.
The DCM FIG team is looking for a new intern to join the team for a 6-month period starting in July 2026.
As an intern in the DCM team, you will:
Support the DCM team in all aspects of deal coverage, origination and execution.
Prepare pitch books and presentations for client meetings and organise internal database and deal records.
Assist in the preparation of weekly market updates for internal and external clients, discussing bond market conditions and trends across the markets.
Support DCM team with pricing and valuation of bonds across products and currencies.
Credit and pricing analysis requires basic understanding of financial statement analysis, rating analysis, financial modelling/bond math and investment banking quantitative skills.
Research and generate ideas for macro and credit market material for client presentations.
Coordinate and work in conjunction with different departments (syndicate/structuring/legal/compliance) across Europe, US, Asia.
Profile
Gap year (“année de césure”) or end-of-studies student
Relevant (Business/Economics/Accounting/Commerce) Degree educated or equivalent
Interest in financial markets and be involved in DCM coverage and transactions
Prior internship experience, ideally in the banking industry or in the financial sector is welcome
Skills Valued
Fluent in English and French (written and spoken)
Good knowledge of Fixed Income Market key drivers
Proficiency in MS Office tools (Excel, PPT, Word)
Experience with Bloomberg welcome
Analytical skills with specific ability to communicate concepts and ideas concisely
Ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Ability to take initiatives and work with autonomy
Curious and self-motivated
Team oriented
Strong communication skills
Ability to interact with other teams and colleagues
